Volkswagen's bet on scaling platforms across BEV models appears to be slowly paying off... across Europe

Infographic on Volkswagen Group MEB European registration volume trends in 2024

According to our latest European Electric Car Study published later this week Volkswagen group's MEB models spread across ten VW Group models and two Ford models accounted for almost every fourth new BEV registered across the West European passenger car market during November. With a number of deliveries likely delayed until 2025 to assist in reaching EU CO2 compliance levels with CFO Antlitz saying the Group hopes to meet targets without pooling, and brand marketing boss, Sander, saying this week, that ID.7 orders are outpacing those of the Passat. ID.7 regional deliveries are averaging 5,000 units per month currently.

Four more MEB models will arrive from 2026 featuring LFP batteries, starting from under €25,000 before subsidies, while MEB models featuring Rivian software will arrive from 2027.

MEB-based models on sale in Europe are manufactured across six different sites currently. Over 310,000 MEB models have been delivered across the regions this year (Jan-Nov) which is more than Tesla's Model 3,Y,X and S models combined (269K). Just under 300,000 came from VW Group models. More in the study.
