According to data from the European Electric Car Study, a subscription industry report published monthly, every third pure electric (BEV) passenger car model available across European dealerships is a vehicle manufactured in China.
Just under 50 of the 145 BEV models currently available to order on the West European passenger car market are models that are manufactured in Chinese plants and would be impacted by a rise in EU import tariffs to the 27 EU single market region.
This includes models such as the Tesla Model 3, the new MINI from BMW Group, as well as its IX3 model, and Volvo's EX30 which will shift production to its European Ghent facility from next year. Volkswagen Group has also just begun production of its Cupra Tavascan model, based on the MEB platform in China, which will be shipped to Europe. ◼︎︎
More exclusive data like this and insights are published for subscribers (€) in the The European Electric Car Study published by Schmidt Automotive Research each month, which is available to purchase as a single edition or an annual subscription.
The study now also features a double page in-depth look at the Chinese OEMs as their European expansion slowly begins.
