According to Schmidt Automotive Research data, 394,600 Chinese-brand models, across all fuels, were registered across Western Europe during 2024, amounting to 3.4% of the total region or a 0.4ppts increase over the previous year (345,100).
The final months of the year saw a noticeable market pace increase from Chinese OEMs, with December recording the highest monthly penetration on record, equivalent to 4.4% of the total market.
This followed what was looking like a period of stagnant growth following a type-approval change in July, including cyber-security elements and the threat of retrospective anti-subsidy EU tariffs which would have been provisorily imposed from July but were later dropped on legal grounds.
